I want to get a phone and can't decide which one will be good, Apple and Android both looks great to me. Which one will be better for a non techie user in a decent range?

if judging the device by "flexibility" the hands down winner is Android , Apple has always kept the closed system approach so much so that the first launch of Mac the screws were of a different type so that no one else can even open the machine (it was idea of Steve Jobs) .
While Android built on Linux which is open source always had a more flexible approach thus winner in this category
