The main problem of the story is not the sword man himself as it's simply more like the other characters fighting in his fight. The main weakness of Aang is his being weak in his skills and he gets all the attention. For instance, the story focuses so many times on how it deals with Aang to illustrate that he's weak in his main strength in this chapter, especially Aang's sword skills.
